Virtual Summer Show 2020
It was with great reluctance that the Committee of Froxfield and Privett Garden Club decided in June to cancel our normal physical summer show. However, it was also seen as an opportunity to try out a different format more suitable to the unusual times in which we are living. So our Virtual Summer Show was conceived.
The schedule of classes from the physical show was adapted to the different format with classes that would not normally be included, other than as subjects for photography. The rules were also relaxed to make it as easy as possible to enter.
The result was that the members of the garden club and residents of the village responded with over 200 colourful pictures of their fruit, vegetables and flowers together with flower arrangements and cakes. The most popular classes were “A single stem of a Rose” and “Any other Flower(s)”. We also saw a number of wild flowers in situ, flower borders and vegetable gardens.
The public were invited to cast their votes for each class and the winners can be seen below.
No prizes or trophies were on offer but Pippa Chapman, Jan Cole, Juliet Kinder, Julia Maginnis and Christine Stephens all won first prize in more than one class and also were placed in several other classes.
The response has shown that this year our gardens have benefited even though there have been periods of hot weather with little rain especially in the weeks immediately preceding the show. It also goes to prove that Froxfield and Privett Garden Club is thriving in these unusual times.
