Virtual Spring Show Results 2021
The continuing situation with Covid 19 meant that in January the Committee of Froxfield and Privett Garden Club decided to take our Spring Show on line.
As with the successful Virtual Summer Show in 2020, our normal schedule of classes was pruned and some new classes included that suited this format. Whilst many entrants choose to pick their daffodils and photograph them in vases, a significant number of entries were photographed in situ bringing a new dimension to the Spring Show.
The most popular daffodil classes were those for yellow and bi-colour blooms. This reflected the long cold winter and later arrival of many other varieties.
Both the classes for any other bulb, corm or rhizome and flowering shrubs were well supported. The change of format meant that there were photographs of crocuses as well as the more regular attendees of grape hyacinths and anemones.
The photography classes were well supported with a wide range of subjects in both classes.
With nearly 200 entries from 60 individuals (including 31 children), the size of the show was on a par with our 2018 physical show three years ago, when weather conditions were similarly cold.
No prizes or trophies were on offer, but Julia Magginnis is to be congratulated on her clean sweep of the flower arranging and cookery classes.
Finally, the children of the parish and those from Froxfield Primary School and Froxfield Pre-School are to be congratulated on their colourful entries which were very difficult to choose between as is evidenced by the number of joint awards in some age groups.
Our thanks go to all those who entered, as without them our show would not have been a success.
