Summer Show 2021

On Saturday 21st August, the gardeners of Froxfield and Privett came together for their first physical show for two years.   Although the number of entries was down on pre pandemic shows, their quality was high.

Fruit and vegetable entries were hit by the poor growing season this year, but the flower entries held up as did those in the flower arranging classes.   The classes for annuals, a dahlia, a hydrangea and the collection of six different flowers were particularly popular.

The Banksian Medal was awarded for the most points in the horticultural classes to Tidda Dobbs.  Her exhibits included a basket full of fruit and vegetables.

Of the flower arranging classes both the Arrangement in a flower pot and the Floral buttonhole were popular, but the Elizabeth Cawson trophy for the best arrangement was won by Teresa Brown for her entry depicting 100 years of the Royal British Legion.

The Dee Kiddle cup for cookery was presented to Elizabeth Houghton-Connell for her orange cake which the judge said really tasted of oranges.

The children from Froxfield Primary School contributed pictures of A Bee Friendly Garden, whilst those from Froxfield Pre School painted insects and Privett Montessori provided pictures of Spring Flowers.
