Summer Show 2023
Froxfield and Privett Garden Club welcomed members and visitors to its recent Summer Show at Froxfield Village Hall on Saturday 19th August. Exhibitors entered a wide range of fruit, flowers and vegetables. These along with the flower arrangements provided a colourful display in the hall.
The judges were complimentary about the standard of the entries. The entry numbers were on a par with last year in the horticultural classes, but unfortunately were down in both the cookery and photography classes.
Chairman Elizabeth Houghton-Connell welcomed visitors and gave a resume of the club’s activities over the past few months. She complimented exhibitors on how well they have coped with the difficult growing conditions this year.
The trophy winners included two new names this year. Nina Povey has entered for many years picking up a few prizes along the way, but this year she won both the Fruit Bowl for her figs and the Dee Kiddle Cup for cookery for her Apple Ginger and Honey Cake. Carolyn North won the Friendship Group’s trophy for the best container or hanging basket for her container overflowing with flowers.
The flower arrangement classes provided a variety of entries. The large arrangements on the theme of A Tea Party dominated the end wall of the hall, but the trophy for the best arrangement in the show went to Show Secretary Christine Stephens for her miniature arrangement in a mustard pot.
The children at Froxfield Primary School provided pictures of insects. These were in a variety of media and showed their talents. Froxfield Pre-School children made woodwork models and those from Privett Montessori provided pictures on the theme of Space and the Solar System.
Elizabeth Houghton Connell closed the event by thanking the committee for their hard work in setting up the show and the exhibitors for producing the entries.
