Spring Show 2024
Once again the gardeners of Froxfield and Privett rose to the challenge to provide a wide range of colourful entries for their Spring Show at Privett Village Hall on Saturday 23rd March. The interesting growing conditions of the past few months meant that there were fewer entries in the daffodil classes, but an increase in the number of entries in classes for other spring flowers, especially other spring bulbs and camellias.
Elizabeth Houghton-Connell congratulated the members of Froxfield and Privett Garden Club on the wide range of spring flowers on display.
Competition was keen between the gardeners for the Wendy Lees Memorial Trophy given to the person who achieved the most points across the horticultural classes. Sue Kinlochan won this trophy by just one point.
In the flower arranging classes, the miniature arrangement, Spring in a Box, generated the most entries, with Marion Gimson winning the cup for the best arrangement in the show for her entry in this class.
The judge for the cookery classes was particularly complimentary about the chocolate sandwich cake decorated for Easter and the winning hot cross buns.
The children from Froxfield Pre-School drew Spring Flowers, whilst those from the Privett Nursery School made their Spring Flowers from recycled materials.
A very colourful array of decorated eggs was produced by the children from Froxfield Primary School. It was obvious from the variety and complexity of some of the decoration that hours of work had been put into them by the children.
Show Secretary Christine Stephens reported that all the independent judges had been impressed by the high standard of the entries in the show.
The afternoon was well supported by members, friends and visitors who joined us for tea and cake whilst looking at the exhibits.
