Summer Show 17th August 2019

After a few weeks of wind and rain, the gardeners of Froxfield and Privett produced a beautiful display of flowers, vegetables and fruit from their gardens at their Summer Show on 17th August. The number of entries this year was significantly up on last year in the flower classes which was particularly pleasing given the challenging growing conditions of recent weeks. The classes for a single hydrangea, three different flowering shrubs and the collection of six flowers were very popular.

The cookery classes were also popular with a large number of entries for the loaf of tea bread.

Chairman Sue Kinlochan thanked the members and residents for their many contributions to the show and congratulated them on the high standard of the entries.

The trophies were closely contested this year with the Banksian Medal for the most points in both the spring and summer shows being won by Jane Rothery.

Two new names are being added to the trophies with Pippa Chapman winning the dahlia cup with her bicoloured dahlia. Joanne Edmonds won the Chairman’s Prize for the best exhibit in the flower classes for her beautiful lilies.

Colourful contributions came from the Rainbow Nursery School with their pinch pots and the Privett Montessori Nursery School’s pictures of sweet peas.

Froxfield Primary School produced drawings of insects following on from their support of the Polli Promise project. This theme was also carried through to the photography class, Pollinator at Work, which saw a large and colourful entry of pictures of bees and other insects busy on a wide variety of flowers.
